I've been slowing working my way through Sadness' discography and it's crazy how he makes "depressive" black metal sound so beautiful. It's like the frigidness of early Coldworld mixed with the dreamy and lighter parts of Alcest. This one is the best I've heard from this band so far.

Très franchement, j'aimerais avoir les mots pour dire à quel point A Train in Desolation est mené par un esprit génial. Le mélange des genres — death metal (surtout sur la fin du morceau éponyme) et black metal atmosphérique — est à couper le souffle. Ce qui marque le plus, ce sont les passages acoustiques (là encore dans "A Train in Desolation") servant de transitions qui brisent peut-être encore plus le cœur que le reste. Un album dystopique qui nous met sous les yeux la carcasse du monde.

D'une beauté émotionnelle hallucinante. Les hurlements suraigus de Damián arrachent la peau. Les parties instrumentales (assez pléthoriques soit dit en passant) sont superbes, nostalgiques, émouvantes à en pleurer. Et malgré tout ça, Damián ne se contente pas de créer simplement des odes à la tristesse : il s'agit aussi — et peut-être surtout — d'éveiller un sentiment d'empathie face à l'indifférence, surtout sur "Something Hurts...". Une sorte de thérapie qui vise la guérison du mal par le mal.
